Obituary for Ruth E Kenerson

Ruth E Kenerson
Ruth E. Kenerson at age 76, after a four and a half year battle with ovarian cancer. Beloved wife for 50 years of marriage to Dr. Bob Kenerson. Ruth was born on February 28, 1940, the fifth of eight children of Arnold and Ida (Marti) Hauswirth of Gstaad, Switzerland. She was educated locally and graduated from the Secondarschule, Saanen-Gstaad, and then trained privately as a kindergarten teacher at Chalet Flora School. She also became a certified Bernese Oberland ski instructor, and she taught at the Gstaad Ski School and coached the girls' ski team at the Montesano School. Ruth came to Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1962 as an au pair and while in Boston met her future husband, Bob. They married in 1966 in Gstaad and resided in Boston for a short time. She taught at the Park School in Brookline. They took up residence in Winchester, where they have lived until the present time.

Ruth loved her volunteer work for the town of Winchester where she was a member of EN KA Society for over 20 years and served as president of the Winchester Garden Club. In addition, she enjoyed quilting, tennis, golf, her bridge group, her book clubs, cooking with her “gourmet” group and especially spending time with her children and grandchildren. Many happy hours were spent at the family's second home in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, experiencing the changing seasons, hiking and skiing. She was admired for her quiet dignity, steady patience, warmth, loyalty and her gift with children.

In addition to her husband, Ruth is survived by four children and their spouses: Andrea and Kevin Racek of Burlington, Vermont, Dan and Lynn Kenerson of Sugar Hill, New Hampshire, Julie Kenerson and Eric Jerman of Arlington, Massachusetts and Lisa and Lawton Weber of Manapouri, New Zealand. She also leaves seven grandchildren: Olivia and Matisse Racek; Aquene, Dan, and Jed Kenerson; and Jake and Lukas Jerman. In Switzerland, she was predeceased by her parents and an elder sister, Therese Wyss. She leaves her two sisters, Margrit Reich of Buchs, St.Gallen and Ursula Dornbierer of Wolfenschiessen, her four brothers Adolf Hauswirth, Hanskurt Hauswirth, Heini Hauswirth, and Benz Hauswirth, all of Gstaad, her twenty nieces and nephews as well as thirty-nine grandnieces and grandnephews.

A family graveside ceremony at the Kenerson plot in the Wildwood Cemetery will be private. A memorial service will take place at the Winchester Unitarian Church in early September followed by a reception in the Parish Hall. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Winchester Center for Cancer Care at 620 Washington Street, Winchester, Massachusetts 01890 or to the EN KA Society at 1037 Main Street, Winchester, MA 01890.

KENERSON, Ruth E. Of Winchester, passed away June 26, 2016. Beloved wife of Dr. Bob Kenerson. A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, September 3 at 11:00 a.m. at the Winchester Unitarian Church at 478 Main Street, Winchester. All are welcome to attend.
