Obituary for Christopher R Tweedy (Tweedy)

Christopher Ralph Paterson Tweedy, died on Friday, May 26 in Lowell, Massachusetts. He leaves his sister, Diana Oliver from CA, and brothers, Robert from Los Angeles and David from England plus his daughter Jennifer and son Michael. Christopher was born in Concord Massachusetts on January 9, 1963. He grew up and went to school in Lexington, graduating from Lexington High School in 1982. His father was an electrical engineer and his mother was a psychologist/social worker. Christopher was, in his early years, ever present at the Hayden Recreation Centre and town centre recreational facilities, both as a sport participant and working energetically as a volunteer. Chris had learning disabilities which took him out of the Lexington school system for several years but he returned to finish high school and graduate with a diploma. Chris was known as a popular boy with a lot of friends, a sunny disposition and a ready smile. He was a keen hockey player and participated in the Lexington youth hockey program from an early age right through high school. He also liked to play chess, ski, ride his bicycle, go to the beach and walk his dog Brandy. After graduation, he had a number of jobs in and around Lexington when in 1988 he started his own landscaping business. It was during that time that he married and had his two lovely children. He tried to be good father but he took a turn for the worse that affected him for the rest of his life. What happened was a long series of challenges over 20 years during which he never managed to settle down. He ended up living in Lowell for the last 10 years where he was known on the streets as ‘Smiley’. He remained resolutely positive and hopeful despite challenging circumstances. He was always a loyal and devoted son and sibling. His life had its ups and downs but he knew that he could always rely on the support of his parents and family. After his father’s funeral in April, after the last guests had left, Chris looked lost and felt he had no place to call home anymore. He went back to Lowell and his body was found on May 26th. His life was a tragic life and he will be missed more than words can ever say.
A funeral service will be held on July 8th at the Lane Funeral Home 760 Main St. (Rte. 38) Winchester MA at 11 am. Please make donations to the Charity Watch Partnership for Drug Free Kids in lieu of flowers.
